Google has quietly introduced a nostalgic surprise for Pokémon fans - a mini-game letting users catch the original 151 Pokémon directly through mobile search. When searching for any first-generation Pokémon, logged-in users will spot a Poké Ball button that can be tapped to "catch" that Pokémon, complete with a nostalgia-inducing animation.
The catch-tracking feature keeps record of your growing collection and provides "Who's that Pokémon?" clues pointing to creatures you haven't found yet. No battling or exploring required - simply search for each Pokémon by name and tap the Poké Ball to add it to your Google Pokédex.
Legendary and Mythical Pokémon require Master Balls, which players earn by catching regular Pokémon. Google remains Ghastly quiet about what "prize" awaits those who complete the full collection, but the satisfaction of completion appears to be the primary reward.
This feature arrives as searches for "pokemon card" reached Onix-pected heights in the US this February. The mini-game is mobile-only and requires a Google account to save progress. Hop to it and catch 'em all while you can!
